MARQUETTE, Mich. - Northern Michigan lacrosse will remain on the road this week with a pair of non-conference games against GLVC schools. NMU will play Maryville on Thursday, March 9 at 3 p.m. and again on Friday, March 10, with a matchup against Rockhurst at 4 p.m., a neutral site game in Quincy, IL.
The Wildcats have started the season 4-0, the best start in program history. It will be a tough test for the Wildcats this week, as Maryville also sits at 4-0, while Rockhurst is 3-1.

Last Time Out
After two home wins to start the season, NMU picked up a pair of road wins, 15-8 over Lewis and 15-4 over Quincy, this past weekend.
In the 15-8 victory at Lewis,
Kaitlyn Bridger led in the goals department with four and Madeline Bittell and
Maddi Bast each weren't far behind with three.
Katelyn Mongold had the most shots of the game with eight in total.
Maddi Bast scored seven goals to lead NMU to a 15-4 victory at Quincy on Sunday. Bast bested her previous career-high in goals (5) to lead the NMU charge.
Minnie Bittell also recorded a hat trick while freshman
Hannah Melander was stellar in net, stopping 11 of 15 shots (.733 save percentage).
Cat Nips
- Minnie Bittell leads the 'Cats with 18 points (14G, 4A). Across the GLIAC, her 18 points are second, and her 14 goals are third. She has 105 career goals, three off the all-time program-high of 108.
- Maddi Bast is right behind Bittell with 17 points. They have all come via goals, the second most in the GLIAC.
- Goalie Hannah Melander currently leads the GLIAC in save% (55.4%), goals against (25), and goals against average (7.49). Her 31 saves are good for second across GLIAC netminders.
- Taylor Priestley is tied for the lead in the GLIAC with five assists.
- Lauryn Rygiel is second in the conference with 15 draw controls.
- Maddi Bast earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for week three. Coming off of a Second Team All-GLIAC honor last season in which she scored 38 goals in her freshman campaign, Bast got the Northern Michigan University Wildcats started with a 16-13 season-opening win over Missouri Western State. Bast scored five goals to lead the 'Cats, scoring a hat trick less than halfway through the first quarter. She had seven total shots for a .714 shooting percentage.
- Hannah Melander earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the 'Cats in week three. In her first collegiate game, Melander stood tall in net for Northern Michigan, stopping 12 shots while having 33 total shots sent her way. She recorded a .480 save percentage in the matchup against Missouri Western State, helping the Wildcats to a victory and a 1-0 start to the season.
- The Wildcats set a record on Monday, February 27, recording its first shutout in program history. The 'Cats also tied the program record for the largest margin of victory of 21 points (Upper Iowa, 3/20/22).
Scouting Maryville
The Saints are 4-0 on the season and were picked to finish 4th of seven teams in the GLVC preseason poll. They have not allowed more than eight goals in any of their four contests this season.
Sydney Tiemann leads the charge for Maryville with 27 goals and 30 points. She is first in the DII lacrosse landscape with 6.75 goals/game. In net, Jo Miles has a 6.34 GAA and a .468 save percentage.
Scouting Rockhurst
The Hawks are 3-1 this season. They were selected to finish 2nd in the GLVC preseason poll. The lone loss suffered this season was a 17-9 defeat to No. 8 Regis.
