How it Happened
The first quarter seemed to be the calm before the storm for both teams with the minimal scoring that was made. The two goals that were found in this time were by Jenna Sugarman and Jayna Barnden of McKendree.
Entering the second quarter,
Kaitlyn Bridger was able to kick off the points for the Wildcats. Two more points were made by our opponents before Madi Bast scored her 24th goal of the season. Bridger followed with back-to-back nettings, which tied the score. After another couple of points were added to the McKendree score,
Minnie Bittell made her first goal of the game.
Taylor Priestley ended the first half with her point after McKendree managed to put another on the board.
The second half opened with the Bearcats leading by one point at 7-6, but Bittell was able to knot the score once again. This led to Northern gaining a slight lead due to Priestley and
Natalie McGinnis' contributions. McKendree soon caught up and had the score tied for the third time before Priestley passed the ball to Bittell, scoring her hat trick of the day. As the third quarter was winding down, Barnden added another tally to the Bearcats' score, which was matched by Bittell seconds later. Bridger followed her teammate and ended the period with the Wildcats in the lead, 12-10.
McKendree struck first in the final quarter and Bittell reciprocated, maintaining the Wildcats' two point lead. Another Bearcat strike had Bittell racing to find a point of her own, with the same situation happening for Bast minutes later. With 15 seconds left in the game, Bridger scored an open net goal, earning a win for the Wildcats at 16-13.
