MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University women's lacrosse team travels to Illinois this weekend for two matchups against non-conference opponents in the Lewis University Flyers, and the Quincy University Hawks.
The Wildcats are off to a great start, opening up the season with a 2-0 record including the first shutout in program history. The Flyers are 1-1 in its first two games, and the Hawks are 1-2 in its first three matchups.

NMU opened its season with two home victories, including setting and tying school records on Monday.
The Wildcats kicked off its home opener with a 16-13 win against the Missouri Western State University Griffons on Saturday.
Maddi Bast led the team with five goals while Madeline Bittell and
Katelyn Mongold followed behind with four each, and
Kaitlyn Bridger added three.
Taylor Priestley was the leader in assists at four and
Dayna Carlson trailed behind with two.
On Monday, NMU recorded its first shutout in program history along with tying for the largest goal differential in program history with a 21-0 win over Concordia Ann-Arbor. The 'Cats saw goals from 13 different players with
Minnie Bittell leading the team with four goals, along with
Isabella Detienne and
Danielle Key adding the first in each of their careers.

- Maddi Bast earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for week three. Coming off of a Second Team All-GLIAC honor last season in which she scored 38 goals in her freshman campaign, Bast got the Northern Michigan University Wildcats started with a 16-13 season-opening win over Missouri Western State. Bast scored five goals to lead the 'Cats, scoring a hat trick less than halfway through the first quarter. She had seven total shots for a .714 shooting percentage.
- Hannah Melander earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the 'Cats in week three. In her first collegiate game, Melander stood tall in net for Northern Michigan, stopping 12 shots while having 33 total shots sent her way. She recorded a .480 save percentage in the matchup against Missouri Western State, helping the Wildcats to a victory and a 1-0 start to the season.
- Minnie Bittell leads the 'Cats with 12 points (8G, 4A). Across the GLIAC, her 12 points are second, and her eight goals and four assists are both T2.
- Goalie Hannah Melander currently leads the GLIAC in save% (48.0%), goals against (13), and goals against average (9.71). Her 12 saves are good for third across GLIAC netminders.
- Taylor Priestley leads the GLIAC in assists with five.
- The Wildcats lead the GLIAC in assists (23), goals per game (18.50), shooting percentage (52.1%), goals against average (7.07), and save percentage (51.9%). Its 37 goals are second.
- The Wildcats set a record on Monday, February 27, recording its first shutout in program history. The 'Cats also tied the program record for the largest margin of victory of 21 points (Upper Iowa, 3/20/22).
