QUINCY, Ill. – The NMU lacrosse team ended a lengthy road-game trip on Friday, a 16-9 loss against Rockhurst University.
Katelyn Mongold led the way with four goals for NMU, while
Kaitlyn Bridger and
Dayna Carlson each had two. Bridger also led in assists, having two, while Mongold and
Natalie McGinnis had one.
How it Happened
The Wildcats struck first in the first two minutes with goals made by
Katelyn Mongold and
Kaitlyn Bridger. Rockhurst was able to catch up quickly and their own Dani Mabry earned the team a lead of one. A netting by
Taylor Priestley tied up the score, but Rockhurst prevailed in the first quarter with a two-point lead on the 'Cats at 5-3.
After two goals were made by our opponents,
Katelyn Mongold snuck another in on Rockhurst's goalie Madeline Morrison. The 'Cats three point trail was short lived due to three more scorings made by the Hawks. The teams headed into halftime with Rockhurst in the lead with six points, 10-4.
The third quarter was quite uneventful with only one goal made by Mongold, which contributed to her hat trick of the game. During those 15 minutes, the 'Cats had four shots on goal, four saves, and picked up two ground balls.
Entering the final quarter, the Hawks netted another ball before Mongold had a free position shot, putting her at four points this game. After three more goals were made by Rockhurst,
Natalie McGinnis threw the ball to
Dayna Carlson who scored her first point of the game. Bridger saw the same opportunity and passed it off to Carlson yet again, earning the team two points in less than a minute. In the final minutes of the game, the Hawks scored twice with Bridger finding her second goal in between. At a score of 16-9, the Wildcats fell short putting their record at 4-2.
