MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan women's wrestling team is set to begin its third season of competition, as the Green and Gold will travel to Stevens Point, Wisconsin for the Pointer Open on Saturday, November 4 at 10 a.m.

Preseason Poll and Rankings
NMU is been ranked tied for 13th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Preseason Poll. Overall, the Wildcats picked up 12 points in the poll, tied with Aurora and Presbyterian. North Central took home first-place preseason honors with 132 points.Â
Marisa Roth, a sophomore from Brookfield, Wisconsin, enters the new season ranked sixth in the 143 weight class. Last year, she finished in second place at the Northwest Regional Qualifier in the 143 weight class while also competing at the National Championships. Roth also was named a NWCA Scholar All-American.Â
Noelle Gaffney, a sophomore from Lafayette, New Jersey, also slots in at sixth in her weight class (155) entering the new campaign. Last season, Gaffney competed at the National Championships after taking 4th place at the Northwest Regional Qualifier.Â
Last Season
As a team, the Wildcats took 12th nationally in just its second season of competition.
Tony DeAnda was named the Regional Coach of the Year.Â
Along with Gaffney and Roth, the Wildcats also return
Teniola Ajayi and
Trinity Valentin who earned a spot at the NCWWC National Championships a season ago, along with
Bryn Sandhu who had an eighth place finish at last year's regionals.Â
