Wildcats to host Wayne State on Saturday

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Football team is set to host the Wayne State University Warriors on Saturday, October 28. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. ET at the Superior Dome.

"Wayne State is unique and we have to keep ourselves as confident as can be. They are going to give us different looks to keep us off balance, so we need to be aggressive and fast and make sure our guys understand the game plan."



Last Weekend
The 'Cats hosted No.2 Grand Valley State last weekend, and fell 73-14. GVSU totaled 609 yards in the contest to NMU's 279. Charlie Gerhard scored a 54-yard touchdown and Brock Franklin also found the endzone for NMU. Mitch Larkin continued to pace the conference in tackles, adding 13 in the game for the green and gold

The loss dropped the Wildcats to 0-8 on the season, while the Lakers improved to 6-1.

  • Mitch Larkin leads the conference in total tackles (81), with 41 solo and 40 assisted
  • Tyqaun Cox is currently fifth in GLIAC in all purpose yards (735) and seventh in the GLIAC in rushing yards per game (44.9)
  • Sam Peiffer is tied for ninth in the GLIAC in receiving touchdowns (2) 
  • Freshman linebacker Jax Hertel is tied for fourth in the GLIAC in interceptions (2)
  • Jake Price is ranked 10  in the GLIAC in sacks (3)
  • The Wildcats are the least penalized team in the GLIAC, averaging 4.8/game and 38.3 penalty yards/game. Those are both top-10 marks in the country

Notes on Wayne State
The Wayne State Warriors enter the matchup 2-6 overall and 1-2 within the GLIAC. The Warriors  are currently on a two game losing streak. WSU has a 6-7 all-time record vs. NMU, losing the last 2 matchups.
Last week, Wayne State lost to Saginaw Valley in overtime 17-10. Saginaw Valley came up with the game-winning interception. The Warriors produced 336 yards of total offense in comparison to the Cardinal's 194. Justin Cox (QB) threw for 107 yards and rushed for 72 yards and a score. Kendall Williams (RB) rushed for 87 yards and had 40 yards through the air.
