Wildcats to host No. 2 Grand Valley State at the Dome

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Football team prepares to host for a second week in a row, as No. 2 Grand Valley State University will visit the Superior Dome on Saturday, October 21. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. E.T.

Last Weekend
The 'Cats hosted rival Michigan Tech Huskies last weekend, in the battle of the Miner's Cup. The Wildcats would go on to concede 31 points in the first half and another 31 in the second, falling 62-0. Northern Michigan turned the ball over four times while also having two punts blocked in the game.

  • Mitch Larkin leads the conference in total tackles (71), with 37 solo and 34 assisted, and is second in conference in tackles per game (8.9)
  • Tyqaun Cox is currently 4th in GLIAC in all purpose yards (735) and seventh in the GLIAC in rushing yards per game (44.9)
  • Sam Peiffer is tied for ninth in the GLIAC in receiving touchdowns (2) 
  • Freshman linebacker Jax Hertel is tied for fourth in the GLIAC in interceptions (2)
  • Jake Price is ranked eighth in the GLIAC in sacks (3)
  • The Wildcats are the least penalized team in the GLIAC, averaging 4.5/game and 33.2 penalty yards/game. Those are both top-10 marks in the country


Notes on Grand Valley State
The Grand Valley State University Lakers enter the matchup 5-1 overall and 2-0 within the GLIAC. The Lakers are currently on a five game winning streak. GVSU has a 11-1 all time record vs. NMU, winning the last 7 matchups.

Last week, GVSU pulled off an upset vs. No.1 ranked two-time defending national champions Ferris State University in a blowout fashion, 49-28. GVSU produced 433 yards of total offense in comparison to the Bulldogs 438. Cade Peterson (QB) threw for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns. Avery Moore (RB) rushed for 126 yards and two scores. Cody Tierney (WR) also contributed with 74 yards in the air and two scores.
