Schmidt Breaks Record, Men's Soccer Earns Point on the Road

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University men's soccer team concluded its road trip with a match against the Davenport Panthers, drawing a 0-0 decision and earning a point on the road.

The Wildcats record moves to 2-9-3 overall and 1-5-2 in the GLIAC, and the Panthers shift to 3-4-5 overall and 2-3-3 in the GLIAC

Despite being outshot 16-3 the Wildcats battled to keep the match scoreless and draw a 0-0 decision with the Davenport Panthers.

Head coach Alex Fatovic had this to say after todays match:

"Unbelievable effort today from the boys. With all the injuries and guys sitting out, it took just about everybody to get a good result on the road. It's been a tough long season, but their guys hearts are all still in it 100%. One game to go then the playoffs, and I'll take this team against anyone in the GLIAC. Up the cats!"

Cat Nips How It Happened
1st Half

Davenport had the first opportunity to score but Wildcat Goalkeeper Bryce Beckley made an impressive save in the 10th minute. The Panthers came back and had another scoring opportunity that was again stopped by Beckley.

Aydin Lambert had the lone opportunity at the 17 minute mark for the Wildcats with a shot that missed wide.

The Davenport Panthers held majority possession in the half and outshot the Wildcats 6-1 with two on net for the Panthers. Beckley made the difference in the half with two huge saves leaving Davenport unsuccessful the half remained scoreless.

2nd Half
The Panthers had the first opportunities of the second half but the Wildcats defense was a force. Bryce Beckley was the difference maker in this game.

The Cats put up a fight despite being outshot by the Panthers 16-3 with 0 shots on net by the Wildcats. 

Beckley ended the game with five saves shutting out the Panthers offense, putting up a 0-0 decision.
