MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Football team looks to bounce back this week as they will host the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh Titans on Saturday at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats dropped their season opener to McKendree University 31-24 in overtime. A late field goal by Daniel Riser sent the game into overtime. McKendree was able to score a touchdown on their first possession of overtime, taking a 31-24 lead. The Wildcats got a chance to even the score and send it to second overtime but couldn't get in the endzone.
THROUGH THE AIR
Quarterback Drake Davis was 20-31 for 211 yards and two touchdowns. His first touchdown of the season came late in the first quarter when he found Cam White in the back of the endzone for a five-yard score. Early in the second quarter, he connected with Wyatt Davis for a six-yard touchdown.
Runningback Tyshon King led the way through the air with nine receptions for 94 yards. Davis and King were able to connect on several short passes out of the backfield.
ON THE GROUND
Drake Davis had a team-high 90 yards on twelve carries. Davis was able to keep plays alive with his legs and take off and run when he had to. Running Back Deandre Caldwell had 86 yards on nine carries. Caldwell ripped off a 63-yard run that would set up a Wildcat touchdown.
DEFENSE
Mequon Hudson and Justin Peake led the team with 11 tackles each. Hudson had eight solo tackles and three assisted tackles. Peake had four solo tackles and seven assisted tackles.
The Wildcats combined for three sacks on the day. Justin Peake had 1.5 sacks, John McMullen had 0.5 sacks, and Jhermari Mabry had 1.0 sacks.
DJ Hutcherson had an interception that he returned 35 yards. That interception set up the first points of the game for the Wildcats.
NMU VS UW-OSHKOSH
The Wildcats and the Titans met last year in Week 2, the Titans were able to come out on top 28-10.
