Road Showdowns with No. 7 GVSU and DU Await the No. 23 Wildcats

MARQUETTE, Mich. -  The No. 23 Wildcats (7-0-1, 4-0 GLIAC) will head downstate for a pair of crucial GLIAC contests this weekend. 

On Friday, September 23, NMU will play under the lights at reigning national champion and current No. 7 Grand Valley State (5-1-2, 3-0-1 GLIAC) at 7 p.m. On Sunday, September 25, Davenport (3-3-2, 2-1-1 GLIAC) will play host for a noon showdown.

A Look at No. 7 Grand Valley State

The Lakers are nationally-ranked No. 7 and sit in second place right behind NMU in the GLIAC standings with a 3-0-1 conference record and an overall mark of 5-1-2. The team is led by Kennedy Bearden with four goals and five assists this season. 

NMU will look to snap an 18–game losing streak to perennial powerhouse GVSU. NMU lost by one goal in both road contests last season, with one ending their season in the GLIAC Tournament. 

A Look at Davenport
Davenport is 3-3-2 this year with an inner-conference record of 2-1-1. NMU won 5-1 in their matchup a year ago. 
 
A Look at the No. 23 Wildcats
Northern is 7-0-1 and 4-0 in the GLIAC, outscoring opponents 32-6. Their 32 goals and 90 points are best in the GLIAC. 

The Wildcats also stack up with the best of them in the nation in several top offensive categories. NMU is second in goals/game at 4.0 and assists/game at 3.25, while they sit third in points/game at 11.25 and in shots on goal/game at 11.5.

The wealth has been spread out on offense to start the year. Brooke Pietila and Justina L'Esperance are tied for the GLIAC lead with six goals. Molly Pistorius (four goals) and Brenna Musser, Rachael Erste, and Hannah Kastamo (three each) sit inside the top ten as well. 

Pietila also leads the conference with six assists and 18 points. 

NMU has earned Offensive Player of the Week the first four weeks of the season, with Justina L'Esperance being honored with the first two and Brooke Pietila earning the recognition the past two weeks.
