Wildcats Mourn Death of Track & Field’s Jayden Hill

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan student-athletes, coaches and staff are grieving after the passing of track and field team member Jayden Hill on Sunday, April 3.

"Wildcat Athletics sends our sympathy to Jayden's family and friends," said NMU Director of Athletics Forrest Karr. "Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time. Jayden's teammates and coaches are also in mourning, and we are grateful for everyone who is helping and supporting the team."

Jayden was a first-year student pursuing a degree in political science with a concentration in pre-law and had aspirations to become a civil rights lawyer. She transferred to NMU in January. Her hometown was Monrovia, Liberia, but she attended Coopersville High School in Allendale, Mich., where she was a highly decorated track athlete.

"Jayden made an impact on our team in a short time," said NMU Track and Field Coach Jenny Ryan. "She was extremely dedicated to her sport, a tremendously hard worker, and a warm and engaging young woman off the track. She will be missed."

A candlelight vigil was held on campus in her honor Monday evening. Her full obituary and details regarding her memorial service can be found here.
