ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Northern Michigan University lacrosse team improved their season record to 6-2 with a 15-10 win at Ashland on Sunday (March 13). It was the fourth straight win for the Wildcats as they now prepare for GLIAC competition next week.
After a career-best six goals last outing,
Madeline Bittell duplicated her performance with another six goals.
Emily Renfrew also had a dominant game, finding the back of the net five times herself.
The Wildcats started strong, holding a 5-2 lead after the first quarter of play. Bittell and Renfrew each scored twice while
Dayna Carlson also registered a tally.
In the second, Ashland opened and closed the quarters with goals, but the Green and Gold sandwiched four goals of their own in between. The 'Cats held a 9-4 edge at the break.
Maddi Bast scored twice in the quarter, and
Clara Johnson also scored.
The teams played even in the second half, with the Eagles besting NMU in quarter three 4-3. Ashland made it a 9-8 contest by tallying the first four scores of the third quarter, but Northern closed out the frame with the last three scores.
Madeline Bittell and
Emily Renfrew accounted for the six NMU goals in the second half, as they alternated finding the back of the net through the third and fourth quarters.
Bittell now leads the 'Cats with 25 goals and 34 points on the season.
