Women’s Basketball Heads to Grand Valley for GLIAC Quarterfinals

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team will get ready to play one of the top teams in the country, as they head to Grand Valley State for a GLIAC Quarterfinals matchup on Wednesday (March 2) at 6 p.m.

2022 GLIAC TOURNAMENT

GLIAC Quarterfinals (March 2)
#8 Northern Michigan at #1 Grand Valley State at 6 p.m.
#5 Northwood at #4 Michigan Tech at 5:30 p.m.
#6 Parkside at #3 Wayne State at 5:30 p.m.
#7 Saginaw Valley State at #2 Ferris State at 5:30 p.m.

GLIAC Semifinals and Championship (March 5 and 6)
The GLIAC Semifinals and Championship game will be hosted by the highest remaining seed following the quarterfinals round.


LAST TIME OUT

NMU split on the road last weekend to end the regular season. The Wildcats got a big 59-51 win at Lake Superior State on Thursday. Makaylee Kuhn recorded a season-best 30 points. 

The Wildcats lost at Ferris State 72-62 on Saturday. Makaylee Kuhn reached 1,000 career points in the effort. Elena Alaix went 10-16 from the floor for 21 points. 


STAT LEADERS

Sophomore guard Makaylee Kuhn finds herself among some of the best in the conference, ranking fourth in points per game with 15.9.

Ana Rhude continues to be a force defensively, ranking tied for third in the GLIAC in blocked shots with 33.

Kayla Tierney (41) and Elizabeth Lutz (31) lead the Wildcats in makes from beyond the arc. 


SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Grand Valley State is 25-1 and 18-1 in the GLIAC. They are the #2 ranked team in the country. Emily Spitzley leads the Lakers averaging 12.8 PPG. 


MATCHUP HISTORY

NMU is 2-8 in their last ten meetings with GVSU. The Lakers took each game this season, with a 61-48 win in Marquette and a 50-42 win on their home floor. 


A LOOK AHEAD

With a win, NMU will advance in the GLIAC Playoffs, held on Saturday (March 5) at the highest remaining seed. NMU's season will conclude with a loss at Grand Valley State.
