Lady Wildcats Face Busy Weekend with Three on Road

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team prepares for a busy weekend, as they get set for three road games.  

NMU continues GLIAC play this week at Grand Valley on Thursday (Feb. 10) at 6 p.m. They will then face Davenport on Saturday (Feb. 12) with a tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m. The Wildcats will finish the road trip in a makeup game at Saginaw Valley State on Monday (Feb. 14). Game time is slated for 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

Northern lost a couple of road contests this past weekend, falling to Parkside 73-52 on Thursday and Purdue Northwest 53-52 on Saturday. 

Kayla Tierney hit seven triples over the weekend on her way to 21 points in the two games. 


STAT LEADERS

Sophomore guard Makaylee Kuhn continues to find herself among the best through several statistical categories, while also ranking in the top five in a majority of GLIAC statistics, most notably in points per game, with an average of 15.0. Kuhn also ranks fifth in the GLIAC in rebounding, pulling down 6.7 boards a game. 

Ana Rhude finds herself towards the top of the conference, recording an average of 1.41 blocks/game for a season total of 24. 

Kayla Tierney leads the 'Cats with 30 three-pointers this season. Elizabeth Lutz leads the team with 18 steals. 


SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Grand Valley is 19-1 and 12-1 in the GLIAC. The Lakers are currently ranked #5 in the country. 

Davenport is 2-20 overall and holds a 1-13 mark in GLIAC competition. 

Saginaw Valley is 12-6 on the season with a 7-4 conference record. Kaitlyn Zarycki is second in the GLIAC averaging 20.6 PPG. 


MATCHUP HISTORY

NMU vs Grand Valley State

NMU is 2-8 in their last 10 meetings with GVSU. Earlier this season in Marquette, the Lakers defeated the Wildcats 61-48. Makaylee Kuhn poured in 23 points.  

NMU vs Davenport

Northern is 8-2 in the last 10 matchups with the Panthers. In January, the Wildcats took care of business at home, defeating DU 59-45. Elizabeth Lutz led the way with 16 points. 

NMU vs Saginaw Valley State

The last ten times the 'Cats shared the court with the Cardinals, they are 7-3. The teams split the two meetings last season. Makaylee Kuhn averaged 17 points in the matchups a year ago.  


A LOOK AHEAD

NMU will return to Marquette where they will host Wayne State on Thursday (Feb. 17), Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Feb. 19), and Parkside on Sunday (Feb. 20).
