Marquee Matchups Await Women’s Basketball Ahead of Playoff Push

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team gets ready for a weekend of big games ahead of their claim for postseason berth next week. 

NMU will play at Lake Superior State on Thursday (Feb. 24) at 5:30 p.m. and close out the regular season schedule downstate, as they take on Ferris State on Saturday (Feb. 26) at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

NMU played three at the Berry Events Center this past weekend, going 1-2. Northern fell to Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State, before bouncing back with a big 62-56 win over Parkside on Sunday. 

Makaylee Kuhn powered the 'Cats past the Rangers, posting a 28-point, 13-rebound performance. 


STAT LEADERS

Sophomore guard Makaylee Kuhn finds herself among some of the best in the conference, ranking fourth in points per game with 15.6.

Ana Rhude continues to be a force defensively, ranking second in the GLIAC in blocked shots with 32.

Kayla Tierney (39) and Elizabeth Lutz (30) lead the Wildcats in makes from beyond the arc. 


SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Lake Superior State holds a 4-18 record with a 3-13 record within the GLIAC. Margot Woughter averages 14 points a game to lead the Lakers. 

Ferris State is 18-8 on the season with a 12-6 mark in conference competition. Four Bulldogs average double figures a game, led by Kadyn Blanchard (13.8) and Adrienne Anderson (13.6). 


MATCHUP HISTORY

NMU vs Lake Superior State
Northern has taken nine of the last ten against LSSU. Earlier this season in Marquette, NMU took a commanding 78-50 victory. Fourteen 'Cats scored, led by a dozen points from Vivianne Jende

NMU vs Ferris State
NMU and FSU have split their last ten times they shared the court. The Wildcats fell 68-66 in overtime earlier this season to the Bulldogs. Makaylee Kuhn recorded 21 points for the Green and Gold.
