MARQUETTE, Mich., - The Northern Michigan University Volleyball team will look to remain hot as they face off against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals in the quarterfinal round of the GLIAC championship. The match is slated for November 9, at 6 p.m in the Vandament Arena in Marquette, Mich.

Northern finished with the second seed in the GIAC standings, with a 22-7 overall record and a 14-4 record against conference opponents. Saginaw Valley finished with the seventh seed in the GLIAC, with a 10-19 overall record and a 5-13 record against conference opponents. 

Northern took home victories in both matchups against the Cardinals this season, where both matches were straight-set victories.

A Look at The Wildcats
NMU comes into the tournament with a 22-7 overall record and a 14-4 record against conference opponents. The 'Cats finished the season on a four-game winning streak against GLIAC opponents, going 12-0 in that timeframe. 

The 'Cats are led by Jacqueline Smith, who in the GLIAC is first in matches played and receptions, and second in kills, kills per set, and total attacks. Another highlight in the 'Cats offense is Lizzy Stark, who is sixth in the GLIAC in kills and kills per set. 

A Look at the Cardinals 
The Cardinals finished their regular season with a 10-19 overall record, and a 5-13 record against conference opponents. The Cardinals find themselves in an eight-game losing streak coming into GLIAC playoffs, being outscored 24-6 in that stretch.  

The Cardinals are led by Madison Thompson, who is fourth in the GLIAC in kills, kills per set, and total attacks. Rylee Zimmer is second on the team in scoring, coming in at 16th in the GLIAC in kills and 15th in kills per set.

Previous Matchups
Their first match of the season was at home, where the Wildcats won 3-0. Jacqueline Smith led the 'Cats with 14 kills and was second with 13 digs. Meghan Meyer contributed with eight kills and Lizzy Stark had 6. 

The second meeting was in Saginaw, where the 'Cats won in straight sets once again. Jacqueline Smith led the 'Cats with 15 kills and 15 digs. Lizzy Stark was second with eight and Meghan Meyer and Olivia Webber were tied with six.
