Volleyball Wins Third Straight as Regular Season Winds Down

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Volleyball team welcomed the Purdue Northwest Pride to Vandament Arena for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

The Wildcats won the match in three sets (3-0) over the Pride.    


FIRST SET

The scoring got started with an attack error by the Pride, putting the Wildcats up 1-0.

After two straight points by the pride, Olivia Webber found an opening for a kill to tie the score 2-2.  

The Wildcats went on a two-point streak of their own with a kill from Meghan Meyer and a block from Lizzy Stark.  4-3 in favor of the Wildcats.  

Jacqueline Smith scored two straight points for the Wildcats bringing the lead up to 9-5.  

After an attack error by the Pride and yet another kill by Jacqueline Smith, the Pride was forced to use a timeout.  

Jacqueline Smith came out firing on all cylinders with two more kills to extend the Wildcat lead to 15-8.  

After the Pride closed the Wildcat lead slightly, Rayne Thompson found an opening on a beautiful set from Lauren van Remortal. 19-13 Wildcats.

Some back-and-forth play by both sides brought the score up to 21-16 in favor of the Wildcats.  

Jacqueline Smith finished a beautiful set from Lauren van Remortal with a kill.  

The first set got to set point, and an attack error by the Pride gave the Wildcats a win in set number one 25-17.  

Jacqueline Smith finished the first set with seven kills, and Meghan Meyer and Olivia Webber both finished with three each.    


SECOND SET

Pride got the scoring started in set number two with a set and spike for the point.

Olivia Webber followed that up with a kill of her own to even the score at one. 

Rayne Thompson came away with a block to bring the score up to 4-1 in favor of the Wildcats. 

Jacqueline Smith came away with another kill to bring the score to 6-4.  

The Pride was able to tie the set at 7 with a kill, Jacqueline Smith gave the Wildcats an 8-7 lead with a kill, and the Pride was able to tie it back up at 8 with a kill.  

The Pride took the lead and extended it to 12-9 in the middle of set two.  

Jacqueline Smith ended the Pride run with yet another kill, 12-10 in favor of the Pride.  

Caylie Barlage entered the game and immediately made an impact with a service ace.  

With the score 16-13, Lizzy Stark came away with a kill to bring the score to 16-14.  

A three-point streak by the Wildcats, capped off by a service ace by Alli Yacko, brought the score to a 20-20 tie.  

A kill by Rayne Thompson and another service ace by Alli Yacko gave the Wildcats the lead back at 22-20.  

After a timeout by the Pride, they came out and found an opening on the court for a point to bring the score to 23-21.  

Lizzy Stark found the opening to bring set number two to set point.  

Meghan Meyer finished off set two with a kill.  

The Wildcats won set two by a score of 25-21.  

Jacqueline Smith finished set two with five kills, and Alli Yacko had two service aces.  

 
THIRD SET

A wide attack by the Wildcats got the scoring started in set three. Pride went up 1-0.  

Jacqueline Smith found an opening to tie the game at 1.  

Lizzy Stark followed this up with a kill of her own.  

The score was brought to 4-3 by Lizzy Stark, who found yet another opening on the court.  

Some back-and-forth from both sides brought the score up to 11-8.  

Four points in a row were scored by the Wildcats, which was ended by a block by the Pride, after an extremely long rally by both sides.  

Olivia Webber found an opening for a kill to extend the Wildcat lead to 15-11.

Jacqueline Smith rose way above the net for the kill to extend the Wildcat lead to 18-14.  

A kill by Jacqueline Smith and a service ace by Meghan Meyer got the score to 21-15.

A diving dig by Madeline Crowley set up a kill by none other than Jacqueline Smith.

A kill by Rayne Thompson brought the set to set point and match point.  

Lizzy Stark put an end to this match with a kill.  

The Wildcats won set three 25-21, and the match 3-0.    



STATS LEADERS

Jacqueline Smith led the way for the Wildcats with 18 kills.  

Lizzy Stark finished the match with seven kills, and Olivia Webber finished with six.  

Alli Yacko and Meghan Meyer both finished with two service aces each.  

Lauren van Remortal finished with 34 assists.    


UP NEXT

The Wildcats will stay home and host the Parkside University Rangers for the final regular season game of the season tomorrow Nov. 5th at 4 p.m.
