Men's Basketball Begins December with First GLIAC Road Tests

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Mens Basketball team is set for their first two GLIAC matchups of the season, as they will hit the road for matchups with the Purdue Northwest Pride, and the Parkside Rangers.

The 'Cats will take on the Pride on Thursday, December 1 at 8 p.m. and will finish the weekend on the hardwood with the Rangers on Saturday, December 3 at 4 p.m.

A Look at the Wildcats
The Wildcats are off to a 5-2 start on the season. On the season, the 'Cats are averaging 81.7 points/game, hitting the 90-point plateau four times and triple digits once. 

Preseason Player of the Year Max Bjorklund is off to a roaring start, earning back-to-back Player of the Week honors.  Bjorklund is averaging 25.1 ppg and 5.3 rpg while supporting a shooting clip of 50.9% from the field, 40.5% from beyond the arc, and a 81.1% clip from the free-throw line. Last week, he scored 28 points at St. Cloud State and followed it up with 26 points at No. 14 Minnesota Duluth en route to a 90-76 victory. His 25.1 PPG average is currently the 5th best mark across all of Division II hoops. 

Brian Parzych is off to a solid start to the year as well, averaging 16.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg. Parzych is also leading the team with 23 assists, and shooting 90% from the free throw line.

Two freshmen have also had made impressions early.  Dylan Kuehl is leading the team in blocks with 10, and is averaging 9.6 ppg, and 4.9 rpg. Max Weisbrod is coming off a 23-point performance in which he shot 5-6 from the field, 4-5 from three, and 9-9 at the FT line. He is averaging 9.4 ppg on the season.

A Look at the Purdue Northwest Pride
The Pride are off to a 5-2 start.  The Pride have three players averaging double-digit points per game.  Alou Dillion is averaging 16.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, and is also leading the team with 13 blocks.  Mikell Cooper is averaging 12.9 ppg, and is leading the team in assists with 26.  Anthony Barnard is averaging 12.6 ppg, and 4.4 rpg.  


A Look at the Parkside Rangers
The Rangers are off to a 4-2 start.  The Rangers have three players averaging double-digit points per game.  Rasheed Bello is averaging 18.5 ppg, and leads the team in assists with 29 assists.  Jamir Simpson is averaging 15.3 ppg.  Colin O'Rourke is averaging 13.8 ppg, and leads the team in rebounds per game with 6.7.  O'Rourke is also the team leader in blocks with 10.
