Hillsdale Shoots Lights Out from Three to Hand NMU First Loss

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The NMU men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season, as the No. 16 Hillsdale Chargers outscored NMU 38-20 in the 2nd half and made 14 3-pointers on the afternoon en route to a 74-53 final score.

The Wildcats (4-1) were led by Max Bjorklund with 11 points and Brian Parzych with 10. Jack Gohlke hit eight triples for 26 points to lead the Chargers' attack.

First Half
Jack Gohlke had it going early for the Chargers, pouring in the team's first eight points. The Wildcats were the first to grab a multi-possession lead, holding Hillsdale scoreless for a four minutes stretch to go up 13-8 with 12 minutes to go. Brian Parzych followed his shot and grabbed a couple of rebounds amongst the big men for an impressive two followed by a Justin Kuehl three to highlight the early scoring.

Diego Robinson had the touch in the paint early, converting on three tough baskets to lead the Wildcats with six points with 7:37 to go. NMU remained up 22-18.

The Chargers pulled back even via the three-point shot, as NMU and HC were once again tied 31-31 with two minutes left in the half. Out of a timeout, another three from Hillsdale gave them their first lead of the afternoon.

Max Bjorklund put an end to a 10-0 Chargers run with under a minute to go on a driving bank shot. NMU faced a 36-33 deficit at the break. Bjorklund, Robinson, and Parzych all had 6 points. The Wildcats shot 14-30 (46.7%) while Hillsdale was 13-32 (40.6%).

Second Half
Four triples to start the half from the Chargers helped stretch their lead to double-digits at 48-38 with 14 minutes remaining. Jack Gohlke had three of them for 20 points.

Hillsdale kept raining the shots in from deep, slowly putting the wind out of the Wildcats' sails. Another Gohlke three, his 8th on the night, made it 65-45 with 6:03 to play. He was 8-12 from the 3-point line.

A 38-20 half for the Mustangs helped them cruise to a 74-53 win, handing NMU their first loss of the season. Each side shot 15 threes in the second half, with HC connecting in eight and NMU missing each of them.
