Women's Basketball to Visit Land of 10,000 Lakes for Two-Game Slate

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team will head to the land of 10,000 lakes for matchups against the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles and the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs this weekend. 

NMU will be at Crookston on Thursday, November 17 for a 7 p.m. matchup. They will round out the trip at Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday, November 19 at 3 p.m.

A Look at the Wildcats

The Wildcats are coming off of two wins over the weekend against the Lewis Flyers and the William Jewell Cardinals in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge.

Mackenzie Holzwart led the way for the Wildcats in scoring on the weekend, averaging 14.5 ppg, including a career high 21 points against Lewis.  

Kayla Tierney averaged 13.5 ppg, while shooting 70% from beyond the arc.  

Makaylee Kuhn did a little bit of everything during the weekend, averaging 11.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg, and 5.5 apg.  Kuhn also shot 86% from the free throw line.   


A Look at the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles

The Golden Eagles started the year 0-2, with losses to University of Nebraska at Kearney, and Northwest Missouri State University.  Emma Miller has been the leading scoring for the Golden Eagles so far on the year, averaging 12.5 ppg.  Natalie Mikrot is averaging 8.5 ppg, while shooting 100% from the free throw line.  Bren Fox is leading the Golden Eagles in rebounds with 6.5 rpg.

The Wildcats and the Golden Eagles met last November in a close matchup that was won by the Wildcats.  Makaylee Kuhn finished the game with 16 points and 12 rebounds.    


A Look at the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs

The Mustangs started the year 0-2, with losses to Northwest Missouri State University, and University of Nebraska at Kearney.  The Mustangs have four players averaging double digit points so far this year, Jenna Borchers (15 ppg), Bri Stoltzman (14.5 ppg), Madison Gehloff (14 ppg), and Hannah Parsley (13.5 ppg).  Parsley is the leading rebounder on the Mustangs with seven rebounds per game, while she is also shooting 80% from beyond the arc.
