LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats hosted the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup, where the Cardinals came out with the win 30-21 over the Wildcats.
This marked the final conference game for the Wildcats in the 2022 season. They finished with a record of 1-5.
RUNNING GAME
Against the Cardinals,
Tyshon King had himself a day, rushing for 121 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. King ripped off an 80 yard touchdown run in the first quarter that gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead. King was able to follow his blocks and sprint past the Cardinals defense and find the endzone before the Cardinal defense could catch him.
THROUGH THE AIR
Zach Keen finished the game with 20 completions for 176 yards and a touchdown.
Brenden Sersaw led the Wildcats in receiving with five catches for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Charlie Gerhard wasn't far behind with three catches for 47 yards.
TOUGH DEFENSE
The Wildcats had four players with double-digit tackles, led by
DJ Hutcherson with 15 total tackles.
Antonio Howard Jr. finished with 11 tackles,
Tavion McCarthy and
Will Borchert finished with 10 each.
John McMullen was in the backfield all day, finishing with four tackles for loss, and two sacks.
LATE FOURTH QUARTER PUSH
The Wildcats trailed early in the fourth quarter 27-7, they forced the Cardinals to punt it back to the Wildcat offense. The Wildcats got home and blocked a punt that was recovered by
Rad Premovic in the endzone for a touchdown.
The Wildcats elected to attempt and onside kick and it was successful as the Wildcats were able to jump on the loose ball.
The Wildcats were able to take advantage of the onside kick recovery and scored again to cut the Cardinal lead to 27-21.
The Cardinals put three points on the board to make it 30-21. The Wildcats needed to go down the field, score, and attempt another onside kick. The Wildcats turned it over on downs and the Cardinals won the game 30-21.
WILDCATS TO WATCH
Zach Keen ranks fifth in the conference in passing yards, and passing yards per game.
Tyshon King finds himself first in the conference in rushing attempts, yards, and yards per game. King is also third in the conference in all-purpose yards, and all-purpose yards per game.
Antonio Howard Jr. ranks second in the conference with 94 total tackles.
DJ Hutcherson ranks fourth in the conference with 75 total tackles.
NMU VS LAKE ERIE
The last matchup between the Wildcats and the Storm was back in 2016, where the Wildcats won a close matchup 38-35.
