Wildcats Look to Stay Hot Against the Panthers

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Football team (3-2, 1-0) is set to host the Davenport University Panthers at 1 p.m in the Superior Dome. The Wildcats look to extend their winning streak to three games.

LAST TIME OUT

The Wildcats were on the road last week as they took on the Wayne State Warriors to open up GLIAC play.

A strong defensive effort in the second half helped guide the team to a 37-30 win over the Warriors.

ROLLING ON OFFENSE

The Wildcat offense continued to stay hot against the Warriors.

Zach Keen completed 23 of 29 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns. Keen also found the endzone on the ground for the second week in a row.

Tyshon King continued to be a force on the ground. King ran for 96 yards on the day on 16 carries, he also had two receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Brenden Sersaw caught nine passes for 146 yards. These were both season highs for Sersaw. Wyatt Davis added 35 yards and a touchdown as well.

TOUGH DEFENSE

After a slow first quarter, the Wildcat defense picked up the pace. They allowed just nine points in the second half.

DJ Hutcherson and Justin Peake each had seven total tackles in the game.

John McMullen added six tackles and had a sack.

Tavion McCarthy came away with an interception that seemed to come at a pivotal moment in the game. It halted a Warriors drive and game the ball back to the Wildcat offense.

The Wildcat defense had five total sacks as a unit.

The Warriors were driving late in the game when Brian Schieweck forced a fumble that was recovered by Justin Peake.

WILDCATS TO WATCH

Tyshon King leads the GLIAC in rushing yards and rushing yards per game. He is also third in the GLIAC in all-purpose yards.

Justin Peake is second in the GLIAC in total tackles with 43.

John McMullen is tied for third in the GLIAC in sacks with 2.5.

Wyatt Davis leads the Wildcats in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

NMU VS DAVENPORT

The Wildcats and the Panthers have played once already this season in a non-conference affair in which the Panthers came out on top 31-21.
