KENOSHA, Wis. - Coming off a pair of road wins last weekend, the Northern Michigan University men's soccer team fell short in the regular season finale, conceding three second-half goals in a 4-0 loss to Parkside.
The Rangers held a slim 1-0 lead at halftime but blew the doors open in the second, scoring three more over a 20-minute span as they went on for a 4-0 win over the Wildcats.
"Obviously disappointed in the result but very proud of the boy's efforts," Coach Fatovic said. "4-0 doesn't really tell the whole story and after our third away match in 5 days, it was obvious we weren't playing with a full tank. We started really well, with lots of positive possession in their half, but it was hard for us to sustain that level for 90 minutes. As disappointing as this match was, they have already put it behind them and are ready to avenge our two losses to PNW on Sunday in the GLIAC quarterfinal."
First Half
The Rangers got the first goal of the game in the 16th minute as Christopher Estrada found the net. NMU was in a 1-0 hole early.
Parkside continued to look the part of the second-best team in the GLIAC, as they put good looks on net, but
Alex Weaver was able to come up with some timely saves to keep it a one-score game.
UWP maintained that goal advantage as the halftime intermission came. They tripled up NMU in total shots 9-3 and shots on goal 6-2.
Second Half
Parkside wasted no time grabbing a multi-goal only a couple of minutes into the half on a goal Marcos Calderon Jimenez.
The Rangers continued to surge through the rest of the game, adding two more scores from Lars Popp and Noah Schultz.
Each side opted for a goalie change as the game winded down, with both
Jonas Vorbau and
Jackson Bowers getting time in the net for the Wildcats.
