ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Football team will travel below the bridge for a matchup with the #1 team in the country, the Grand Valley State Lakers.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats traveled up the road to Michigan Tech for another Miners Cup matchup with the Huskies. After four quarters of close football, the Wildcats fell to the Huskies 21-7.
OFFENSE
It was a bit of a struggle for the Wildcat offense, as they could only put seven points on the board.
Drake Davis and Zach Keen combined for 173 passing yards on the day. Davis led the way with 93 yards, and Keen was right behind with 80 yards.
The Wildcats' leading rusher Tyshon King was held mostly in check on the day. King finished the day with 42 yards but was able to find the endzone for the Wildcats' only touchdown.
Charlie Gerhard was the teams leading receiver with 56 yards on three catches. Wyatt Davis was right behind with 37 yards on four catches.
DEFENSE
The Wildcats had four guys on defense with double-digit tackles. Antonio Howard finished with a team-high 12 tackles, and John McMullen, Brian Schieweck, and DJ Hutcherson all finished with 10 tackles.
John McMullen and Brian Schieweck each had half a sack.
Will Borchert and Tavion McCarthy each had a pass breakup in coverage.
WILDCATS TO WATCH
Tyshon King is second in the conference in rushing yards and third in rushing yards per game.
Wyatt Davis is fourth in the conference in receiving yards and fifth in receiving yards per game.
Antonio Howard and Justin Peake are second and third in the conference in tackles. Howard has 66 and Peake has 61.
NMU VS GVSU
The Wildcats look to snap a six-game losing streak to the Lakers. They dropped a close game to the Lakers last year 28-24.
