HAMMOND, Ind. - The Women's Volleyball team took on the Hillsdale College Chargers this afternoon for their last match of the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover.
The 'Cats fell 0-3.
SET ONE
Lauren Van Remortel and McKenzie Gruner opened up the match with a kill. Shortly after, Rayne Thompson posted one as well.
The Chargers took the lead and led 3-6 but a kill from Lizzy Stark lessened the gap.
Hillsdale went on a nine-point streak to bring the score to 5-16. Meghan Meyer put a halt to the streak and Madeline Crowley retaliated with a pair of aces.
The 'Cats pushed the score up to 15-24, but Hillsdale was too much and snagged the first set.
SET TWO
Still, on the grind from winning the first set, Hillsdale opened up two with an ace.
A service error from the Charges put the 'Cats on the board. Meghan Meyer planted a serve on the court to add an ace to her stats as well. The score was now 2-3.
At a score of 4-9, Thompson rallied and planted a kill on the court she went on to score the next point for the 'Cats as well.
Olivia Webber, Lizzy Stark, and Jacqueline Smith continued to put points on the board to bring the gap to 10-14.
The 'Cats were feeling confident while an attack error brought the set to a tie at 15.
Hillsdale went on a six-point streak to gain that momentum back. The score was now 21-15.
The 'Cats gave it their all, but couldn't find a lead in the second. They fell 17-25.
SET THREE
A bad set by the Chargers gave the 'Cats the advantage in the opening of set three.
Meghan Meyer followed a few volleys later keeping the lead 2-1.
The Chargers retaliated and drove the score up to 6-4, but lost a point on an attack error.
NMU went on a four-point streak bringing the score to 10-10. Meyer and Smith earned points and the lead for the team 13-12.
Hillsdale once again drove the score up in favor of them, but the 'Cats quickly followed behind. Thompson and Meyer continuously placed points on the court, and the teams found themselves tied at 23.
The score kept fluctuating in the late points of the set, but Hillsdale came out on top 27-29.
HIGHLIGHTS
Rayne Thompson led the team in kills with 10.
McKenzie Gruner had a perfect hitting percentage.
Ania Hyatt and Olivia Webber both posted two blocks.
UP NEXT
The team will stay on the road as they travel to Davenport University to take on the Panthers. The match is on Oct. 21, 2022, at 7 p.m. (EDT).
