DETROIT, Mich.- The Northern Michigan University women's basketball traveled south for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Wayne State University Saturday, Jan. 15.
Northern struggled to match up against Wayne State after almost a month away from their last conference matchup as the Warriors handed the Wildcats their fifth loss on the season.
FIRST QUARTER
Sophomore
Makaylee Kuhn started the 'Cats out strong, putting down an easy jumper in the opening minutes of play.
NMU knocked down 41-percent of their shots to start the first quarter out strong.
The Warriors took the first quarter by a score of 18-11.
SECOND QUARTER
The Wildcats struggled to open up the second quarter, going scoreless in the opening minutes of play.
Northern found success within the paint, out rebounding the warriors on offense. Sophomore
Samantha Potter led the 'Cats with three rebounds halfway through the second quarter.
NMU found a spark in the dying minutes of the second quarter, knocking down 25 percent of their shots from behind the arch.
Northern ended the second quarter on a 7-3 run, bringing the Warriors lead to within reach.
The Warriors led the Wildcats 37-22 to finish out the second quarter.
AT THE HALF
Makaylee Kuhn led the 'Cats with a total of six points in just eight minutes of play.
Three Wildcats led in the rebound category. Senior
Elizabeth Lutz grabbed a team high three defensive rebounds.
Freshman
Ana Rhude was a defensive force, grabbing a team high in blocks. Rhude blocked a total of three shots.
The Wildcats dominated down low, scoring 54 percent of their points within the paint.
THIRD QUARTER
Freshman
Taya Stevenson opened up the third quarter of play with a behind the head layup, bringing the Warriors lead to 12.
The Wildcats continued to apply pressure, putting down 40 percent of their shots, and keeping the Warriors lead to within reach.
Northern found success on the charity stripe, knocking down 75 percent of their chances.
FOURTH QUARTER
Freshman
Alyssa Nimz found herself scoring behind the arch off a pass from freshman
Brooke Kriegl.
NMU found themselves netting shots from the three point line, as freshman
Andrea Perez knocked one down and NMU kept the Warriors lead to within grasps.
Nmiz continued to add herself to the stat sheet, knocking down 75 percent of her shots from the field.
Northern's late success wasn't enough as the Warriors took the win by a score of 71-56.
STAT LEADERS
Kuhn walked away from the game with a team high 13 points, and added a total of two steals to boot.

The Wildcats shot 50-percent from the three point line, led by Nimz who added 66-percent of her points from behind the arch.
Northern added 50 percent of their total points within the paint, while scoring 14 points off turnovers.
