Football Readying for In-State Clash

MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan University football team (2-1) is traveling to Midland, Mich. Saturday to face off with Northwood University in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.

  LAST TIME OUT

In the team's second home game of the year, the Wildcats defeated Davenport University 20-14.

Quarterback Drake Davis threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the win. The target on the first touchdown pass was Benjamin Loutsis while the other Wyatt Davis received the second.

  QUARTERBACK PLAY

Sophomore Drake Davis shows up in the top five of several GLIAC statistical categories. The quarterback is first in the GLIAC in passing touchdowns with five. His average of 134 yards throwing per game places him fourth in the league. He is also fifth in the conference in rushing touchdowns with two.

Davis has been the only Wildcat to throw a pass this year and has completed 35 passes for 402 yards over three games.

  RUNNING 'CATS

Sophomore running back Tyshon King continues to lead the NMU rushing attack as he has 280 yards rushing with a touchdown. He is averaging 7.37 yards per carry which is good for first in the GLIAC and No. 6 across all of NCAA Division II.

King also has an average of 93.3 yards per game which leads the conference.

  IN THE TRENCHES

The defense had 65 total tackles and two sacks in Saturday's game with Davenport. Freshman Will Borchert led the team with 12 total tackles with four coming solo. Andre Whitley, Jacob Dudeck, Michael Nehf, and Colt Doherty each had half a sack in the game.

John McMullen is second in the conference in sacks with 2.5 while Whitley, a senior, is third in the GLIAC in tackles per game with 10.

  NMU VS NORTHWOOD

The Wildcats and Timberwolves have faced each other 39 times. NMU holds the overall lead in the all-time series 26-13.
