NMU Falls Short After A Strong Second Half

St.Cloud, Minn.- The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team traveled to Minnesota, Friday, Nov. 26th as they played their first of the two game weekend. NMU eventually fell short to St. Cloud State University by a score of 53-35. 
 
FIRST QUARTER


SCSU came out strong, knocking down shot after shot going 60-percent from the three-point line. 

Junior forward Emily Mueller controlled the glass for NMU, grabbing three of the team's seven rebounds. 

Mueller also stood strong in the paint, sending a shot back to move the ball the other way. 

SECOND QUARTER

Northern found momentum in the starting minutes of the second quarter, outshooting SCSU within the first five minutes of play. 

NMU held strong in the rebound game, grabbing 10 boards to the Huskies eight. 

AT THE HALF

Mueller ignited the Wildcats with four rebounds, one block, and shooting 50-percent from the field. 

Freshman guard Kayla Tierney shot 50-percent from behind the arch in nine minutes of play.

SCSU edged out NMU with 19 rebounds to the 'Cats' 18. 

THIRD QUARTER

The Wildcats locked up defensively, holding the Huskies to only 22.2-percent from the field. 

SCSU struggled against the 'Cats as NMU controlled the glass with 13 rebounds. 

NMU finished off the quarter by out-scoring SCSU 11-9. 

FOURTH QUARTER

Northern continued their positive second half by holding the Huskies to 16.7-percent within the first five minutes of the fourth quarter.  

Senior guard Elizabeth Lutz drained a three-pointer at the five minute mark to bring the game within 15. 

NMU's strong push through the second half fell short as they lost by a score of 53-35. 


STAT LEADERS

Sophomore guard Andrea Perez led the 'Cats with a team high in steals with two.  

11 separate Wildcats registered at least one rebound in today's matchup, including sophomore  guard Makaylee Kuhn with a team high of eight.


UP NEXT

After Friday's matchup, NMU stays in Minnesota as they are set to face off against the University of Minnesota Duluth in a non-conference affair. Northern and UMD have a storied history dating back over 40 seasons. Tip off is set for Saturday Nov. 27, at 3pm.
