MARQUETTE, Mich. - Following a busy Homecoming weekend, the Northern Michigan University women's volleyball Wildcats are set to compete on the road facing off against an Upper Peninsula rival.
With only one match this weekend, the Wildcats will be battling it out on the court against Michigan Technological University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Wildcats were picked second in the GLIAC North Division with 50 points, finishing one point behind Michigan Tech and 16 points ahead of Northwood. NMU received two first-place votes in the conference poll.
GLIAC First Team student-athletes Lauren Van Remortel and Meghan Meyer also return to the NMU roster. Van Remortel, the team's setter, led the team in assists last season. Meyer, a sophomore, was No. 1 on the team and in the GLIAC in attacking percentage while leading the team in total blocks.2020-21 GLIAC Freshman of the Year and GLIAC Tournament MVP sophomore Jacqueline Smith is back for the Wildcats this season. The sophomore led the team in total kills, kills per set, points, and points per set.
Jacqueline Smith has retained her top five positions on the conference leaderboard and is currently ranked third in kills per set with 3.82 and third in overall kills with a grand total of 210. This week two Wildcats make another appearance on the GLIAC leaderboard in three different statistical categories.
Caylie Barlage, with another consecutive week of leaderboard appearances, holds her place of second overall in service aces per set with a mark of 0.56.Â
With the first match on Friday, the Wildcats battled hard in a back and forth five-set match, in the end coming out with a 3-2 win over the Cardinals. Returning to play on Saturday, the 'Cats took on the Wayne State Warriors for a tough match. The Wildcats fell 3-0 in close sets to end their weekend with a 1-1 record.Last weekend the 'Cats faced two big matches over Homecoming Weekend. They continued GLIAC play at home vs Saginaw Valley State University and Wayne State University at Vandament Arena.
The 'Cats and the Huskies have faced each other a total of 113 times, making Michigan Tech their most frequent opponent, since they first faced off in 1976. The Wildcats have taken 87 wins in the series vs the Huskies, with only 23 losses in their 45 years of facing off.Â
