MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan University men's soccer team will be traveling to Kenosha, Wis. this Sunday to face off against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, continuing their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) play.
The Wildcats play the Rangers at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October, 10.

After reaching the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) quarterfinals last spring, the Wildcats were pegged to finish fifth overall in the GLIAC preseason poll.

KEY RETURNERS |
The Wildcats return the majority of their squad from 2020-21, including four who received All-GLIAC recognition. Senior Kaffie Kurz was named to the All-Conference First Team last season, the first such honor of his career, while also being named 2021 Humanitarian of the Year by NMU for his leadership and charitable endeavors both on and off the pitch.
Second-Team honorees Ryan Palmbaum and Niko Scheibal also return to the team this season. Palmbaum led the team in assists (4), shots on goal (15) and goals (3; tied) while Scheibal returns after leading a strong defensive corp in the spring.

Ryan Palmbaum leads the GLIAC in shots, having 35 on the season.
Palmbaum also leads NMU with 35 total shots, 12 shots on goal, and one assist.
Keeper Jonas Vorbau is first in the conference for save percentage (.793), third in goals-against (6) and fourth in both goals-against average (1.49) and saves (23).

The Wildcats fought hard against St. Cloud State University but came up short with a 1-3 loss to the Huskies.
Midfielder Ryan Palmbaum led NMU with three shots and one unassisted goal over 90 minutes while junior goalkeeper Jonas Vorbau led the match with six saves in 71 minutes of play.

"We always try to learn from each match and I think we will take what we learned with the matches last weekend and use it as we continue conference play," added Poggi."We battled at Upper Iowa and there were some good moments in both halves. It is a very even playing field in the GLIAC," said head coach David Poggi.
"Six teams make the GLIAC Tournament and it is our goal to make it there. I take my team over everyone," concluded the head coach.

Sunday will be the fifth matchup between the Wildcats and the Rangers, with the last meeting between the two coming in April of 2021.
