Kreps Moves Up In Record Book During Women’s Soccer Victory

HAMMOND, IND.- The Northern Michigan University Wildcats of women's soccer (8-7-1, 6-5-1 GLIAC) traveled down to Indiana for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup against Purdue Northwest (1-13-1, 0-11-0 GLIAC) and earned the season sweep with a 3-0 win.

FIRST HALF

The first half started out slow as both teams battled it out on a sunny day at Dowling Park.

The Wildcats started to apply pressure in the ninth minute as freshmen Calihan Bearden would miss one high. Northern would continue to fight hard throughout the first 45 tallying up a total of eight shots to Purdue Northwest's two.

Keeping up with the pressure, NMU controlled the ball a majority of the first half with 60-percent of possession being in their favor.

SECOND HALF

The 'Cats began the second half strong as Junior Isabelle Brusilow netted a goal off a perfect cross from Caroline Halonen to make it 1-0.

Halonen, having a day already, found herself in a one on one matchup in the 72nd minute where she beat the defender and sent a cross to Brenna Musser who found the back of the net to put the 'Cats up 2-0.

Northern stayed hot in the 87th minute as sophomore Stephanie Trujillo would score an impressive off a corner kick from Caitlyn Trombley making it 3-0.

STAT LEADERS

Senior goalkeeper Shenae Kreps moved up in the NMU record book sitting second in career wins with 17 after the win.

Five different Wildcats would score points with Caroline Halonen leading the team with two points.

Northern would pull away as an offensive powerhouse in today's matchup where the Wildcats team would have 21 shots, eight corners, and controlled possession for over 61-percent of the game.

WILDCAT TALK

"When we didn't get one in the first half, during halftime we talked about how we need to go harder and work for every ball to get this done." said forward Isabelle Brusilow

Brusilow continued "I saw the cross coming from Caroline and knew I needed to put it away. It shows when we work together we find a way to win no matter what, now it's time to look forward to our next games and tournament play."
