MANKATO, Minn. - The Northern Michigan University hockey team struggled to find their groove in the opening period Saturday night at third-ranked Minnesota State University - Mankato, ultimately dropping a 7-0 decision to the Mavericks.
The Wildcats allowed four goals in the first period of play, a deficit they found too great to overcome throughout the remainder of the contest.
With

The Mavericks would score twice more in the final period Saturday evening for the 7-0 final.
AJ Vanderbeck led the team in shots, with four on net for the junior while the team registered 15 total.
The team registered eight blocked shots on the night, including a team-high three from
Ben Newhouse.
The Wildcats return home next weekend to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1991 NCAA Championship team when they host Boston University Nov. 5-6. Puck drop for both games is set for 6:37 p.m.
A fourth period party will be held at the Landmark Inn following Saturday night's game (Nov. 6).
