Football Set to Host No. 8 Grand Valley

MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan University football team (3-4, 1-2 GLIAC) is scheduled to play Grand Valley State University at the Superior Dome in Marquette on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. continuing their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schedule.

LAST TIME OUT

Last week's matchup saw a strong Wildcats team fall short 21-14 against rival Michigan Tech in the battle for the Miner's Cup.

Sophomore quarterback Drake Davis led the 'Cats with 230 passing yards and 48 rushing yards.  Davis also threw and ran for a touchdown, respectively.

Freshman wide receiver Wyatt Davis led the game with 5 receptions for a total of 119 yards, which also included a touchdown.

QUARTERBACK PLAY

Sophomore Drake Davis is third among GLIAC quarterbacks in both passing touchdowns with seven and in passing yards per game with an average of 162.1.

Davis is now up to 1,135 passing yards on the season and is first in the GLIAC with 104 completions on 175 attempts. Drake has also rushed for a total of 310 yards with an average of 44.3 per game.  

Davis had a stellar performance in the Miner's Cup with 230 passing yards and one touchdown through the air, while also rushing for 48 yards and one touchdown

RECEIVING 'CATS

Freshman Wyatt Davis had a career day against Michigan Tech with 119 total yards and one touchdown on 5 receptions.

Davis is also ranked 11th in the GLIAC for yards per game with 40.1, while totaling 281 yards on the season.

STRONG DEFENSE

Freshman Will Borchert ranks first in the GLIAC for defense with a total of 68 tackles, averaging 9.7 per game. Borchert also ranks in the top 25 for NCAA Division II in total tackles.
Borchert racked up 10 total tackles in the Miner's Cup.

Senior Andre Whitley also ranks in the top five in the GLIAC for defense with a total of 62 tackles for an average of 8.9 per game. He also has 3 sacks on the year. 

Whitley had 10 total tackles and 0.5 sacks against Michigan Tech.

Junior John McMullen is third in the GLIAC for defense with a total of five sacks.  

McMullen had five total tackles and one sack in the Miner's Cup on Saturday.

NMU VS GRAND VALLEY

The Wildcat and Laker football programs have seen a lot of each other over the years, amounting to a total of 42 games played amongst the two clubs, with the last meeting taking place back in October of 2019.
