Men’s Soccer Grabs Program’s First Against the Rangers

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Northern Michigan University Wildcats of men's soccer (2-6-2, 2-4-1 GLIAC) came out on top over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers (7-3-1, 4-3-0 GLIAC) for the first time in program history with a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon.

Wildcat   FIRST HALF

The 'Cats started out fast against a powerful Rangers squad scoring within the first four minutes of play. Senior forward Brady Kronenburg netted his first goal of the season off a pass from senior midfielder Kaffie Kurz in the third minute.

The Wildcats would face a total of six shots in the first 45 minutes of play but the NMU defense stayed strong not allowing any of those attempts to be on target. 

Wildcat   SECOND HALF

The Wildcats continued to apply pressure to the Parkside defense as Kronenburg added a second score to his match total in the 63rd minute bringing his career total to three goals. Kurz also added his second assist of the match on the play.

UW-Parkside would bounce back a few minutes later in the 68th minute and score a goal of their own to move the score to 2-1.

The NMU defense held tight the rest of the way keeping the match 2-1 in favor of the 'Cats.

Wildcat   STAT LEADERS

Junior Ryan Palmbaum led the 'Cats with a total of four shots on the day with three being on the net

Brady Kronenburg, who collected a brace, added three shots total. 

Northern lead in shots on goal (5-3) as well as corner kicks (4-3).

Alex Weaver manned the net for NMU the full 90 minutes notching his second win of the season.

"It was a great team win against a very good Wisconsin-Parkside program," said head coach David Poggi. "Brady Kronenburg's brace gave us the confidence and willingness to do the extra little things today."

"Parkside came back strong after we got the second, but we weathered the storm and got the three points," Poggi added. "I'm happy for the guys. We are looking forward to coming back home and preparing for next weekend's matches."

Wildcat   UP NEXT

The 'Cats return home next weekend for a couple of GLIAC matchups. On October 15 NMU faces off against Northwood University at 3 p.m. and on October 17 the Wildcats take on Saginaw Valley State University at 2 p.m.
