Lacrosse Drops GLIAC Contest to GVSU

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Lacrosse continued Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as they hosted #20 Grand Valley State University but fell to the ranked Lakers 21-8.

  STAT LEADERS

Sophomore Ellie Bahr (Crystal, Minn.) led the team with three goals. Junior Angelica Bogden (Clarkston, Mich.) tallied two goals. Junior Graison Ringlever (Mattawan, Mich.) and freshman Aleya Speas (Castle Rock, Colo.) and Emily Renfrew (Okemos, Mich.) added a goal each. 

Ringlever finished with seven draw controls while Renfrew had four. Sophomore Bianca Kinder (Haslett, Minn.) and freshman goalkeeper Cam Stilson (Brighton, Mich.) notched two ground balls each.

Sophomore Shannon Walus (Brighton, Mich.) caused two turnovers. In goal, Stilson posted eight saves.

  THE BEGINNING

NMU scored first when Bahr found the net a minute in. After three GVSU goals, Renfrew scored her ninth of the year to make it 3-2. The Lakers replied with five goals until Speas put in her 13th goal of the season, narrowing the gap to 8-3 with 19:20 left in the first half.

The guests added three goals before Bogden scored her second of the season with 9:55 left. 45 seconds later, Bahr scored again and narrowed the deficit to 11-5.

With 5:42 to to, Ringlever put in a free position shot, making the score 13-6. However, GVSU scored two more goals before the half to take a 15-6 lead at the break.

  THE ENDING

In the second half, Bahr tallied her third goal and 11th of the season at the 17:12 mark. Bodgen found the net for her second of the day and third this year with 5:50 to play. Unfortunately, GVSU managed six second half goals to win 21-8.

  UP NEXT

The eight goals by the Wildcats are the most the team has scored against GVSU in a game since the program started in 2017. It also ties the total goals scored over those previous three games.  NMU returns to action next week and hits the road as they will be visiting four GLIAC Lacrosse schools over their next four games. The road trip begins Friday at McKendree University before visiting Maryville University Sunday.
