NMU Drops GLIAC Tilt to Tech

Box Score

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University hosted #21 Michigan Technological University Saturday in a matchup of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals, but the Wildcats fell to the Huskies in a tight 3-0 match.

  SET SCORES

NMU jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set but Tech rallied back to tie the set at 6-6. The teams stayed close and had it tied again at 16-16 before back to back kills from sophomore Hailey Wickstrom (Calumet, Mich.) gave the Wildcats an 18-16 lead. Wickstrom added another kill after a Husky point, moving the score to a 20-17 NMU lead.

After errors from each team, sophomore Lizzy Stark (Minneapolis, Minn.) got a kill from freshman Lauren Van Remortel (Carmel, Ind.) to make it 22-20. Freshman Abigail Durecki (South Lyon, Mich.) made it 23-22 after a kill and NMU soon took a 24-23 lead after a service error by Tech. However, the Huskies were able to rally and took a 27-25 victory.

The second set saw both teams fight to a 17-17 tie but Tech was able to go on a run to close out the set, winning 25-20.

Michigan Tech opened the third set with a quick lead until the Wildcats tied it at 9-9 and then Van Remortel gave NMU the lead with a kill. The Huskies replied with a run which proved too much to overcome as Tech won the third set 25-21.
