HAMMOND, Ind. – The Northern Michigan University Men's Soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory Sunday as they defeated Purdue University Northwest in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

AN EARLY LEAD

Freshman Ryan Palmbaum (Rocklin, Calif.) continued his hot streak by scoring his fourth goal of the weekend just 13 minutes into Sunday's match. Palmbaum scored his goal off assists from seniors Ben Hoffman (Petoskey, Mich.) and Luca Lippert (Langen, Germany). It was Hoffman's second assist of the season, and is the third straight game he earned a point. It was also Lippert's second assist this season.

EXTENDING THE LEAD

Six minutes later, senior Callum Olpin (Norwich, England) gave the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage when he scored his second goal of the season, and seventh of his career. Palmbaum notched his third assist of the season. Lippert also aided the goal with his second assist of the match.

STAT LEADERS

Sophomore goalkeeper, Patrick Restum (Okemos, Mich.) notched five saves in the effort.

Lippert and Hoffman both tallied three shots to led the offensive attack. Olpin finished with two shots. Senior Lewis Murray (Edinburgh, Scotland), Palmbaum and freshman Keegan Schmidt (Bettendorf, Iowa) all added a shot.

UP NEXT

NMU improves to 6-8 on the season and are now 5-5 in the GLIAC, and have a three-game lead on the final GLIAC Tournament spot. 

The Wildcats will return to action Friday as they visit Saginaw Valley State University for a GLIAC matchup.
