Box Score UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Volleyball fell to Saginaw Valley State University 3-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
NMU claimed the first set 25-14, but dropped the second set 28-26. The third set went to the Cardinals 25-21 and the hosts held on through an extended fourth set to win 29-27 and take the 3-1 victory.
Junior Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wis./De Pere) led the offense with 13 kills while sophomore Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) had 12 and senior Maggie Liebeck (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) chipped in with 11.
Senior Lynzi Svoboda (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest) added 43 assists on the day. She also led the team with five block assists.
Seniors Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) and Jessica Skonning (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) had two aces each.
Senior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley) posted 28 digs to lead the defense. Antunes contributed 17 digs with freshman Alli Yacko (Oak Lawn, Ill.) notching 13.
Kuehn and sophomore Cierra Martinez (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) each added four block assists.
The Wildcats will look to rebound Tuesday evening as they host rival Michigan Technological University in another GLIAC matchup.
