Three Earn All-Tournament as Volleyball Improves to 8-0

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Senior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.), junior Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wis./De Pere) and sophomore Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) were named to the Wildcat Open All-Tournament Team as the Northern Michigan University Volleyball team defeated Bemidji State University and St. Cloud State University to improve to 8-0 on the season.

Antunes notched 32 kills on the day and tallied a .333 attack percentage. She also added three aces and 27 digs. Monsma finished with 30 kills and hit .426, with 20 digs, while Kuehn added 24 kills at a .429 clip. 

Senior Maggie Liebeck (Luxemburg, Wis. / Luxemburg-Casco) chipped in with 19 kills.

Senior Lynzi Svoboda (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest) posted 95 assists, 12 kills and 14 digs.

Senior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley) had 29 digs to lead the defense. Freshman Alli Yacko (Oak Lawn, Ill.) contributed 25.

Senior Jessica Skonning (LaGrange, Ill. / Lyons Township) finished with a team-high four aces.

In the team's first match with the Beavers, the Wildcats combined to hit .374 on the way to a 3-0 sweep.  NMU defeated Bemidji State 25-18 in the first set then held on for 25-22 and 25-23 set victories to win.  Kuehn led the way with 16 kills and Antunes added 11. Svoboda tallied 40 assists while Braunschweig, Antunes and Yacko each had double-figure digs.

The nightcap saw the team again hit well, finishing at .389 percent. Monsma and Antunes both reached 21 kills and Svoboda notched 55 assists. Braunschweig led the defense with 16 digs and Yacko and Antunes had 15. Monsma chipped in with 12 and Svoboda added 10.

NMU continued their hot start with the two victories and now begin the year 8-0.  The Wildcats return to action Friday and open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play by visiting Lake Superior State University.
