Strong Effort But Wildcats Fall To Greyhounds

Box Score

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Lacrosse team hosted #12 University of Indianapolis Friday night in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

Leading the Wildcats was freshman Tess Kostelec (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake), who notched three goals and an assist.  Freshman Emily Dvorak (Oconomowoc, Wis./Arrowhead) also scored three goals.

Sophomore Graison Ringlever (Mattawan, Mich.) had a goal and an assist on the night.  She also posted 10 draw controls to give her 105 in her career and became the first player in program history to reach 100 draw controls.

Senior Brianna Bangle (St. Paul, Minn./ Cretin-Derham Hall) started in the cage and finished with 12 saves.

Sophomore Leiss Luyckx (Troy, Mich./Bloomfield Hills) led the team in ground balls with junior Megan Palacio (Cumberland, R.I.) pacing the team with two caused turnovers.

Freshman Ellie Bahr (Crystal, Minn./Benilde St. Margarets) put the Wildcats on the board first just three minutes into the game. However, the Greyhounds answered with 10 goals before Dvorak scored her 35th of the season to move it 10-2 with 10 minutes left in the half.

After two more UIndy goals, Kostelec found Ringlever to give NMU their third goal of the first half.  The guests added two more goals and took a 14-3 lead into the half.

The Greyhounds opened the second half with eight goals before NMU scored three-straight. Kostelec started the run and was followed by Dvorak scoring her second of the game on an assist from Ringlever.

Kostelec scored her second of the night on a free position shot to make the score 22-6.  UIndy responded with two more goals but Dvorak and Kostelec both scored one more goal.  A final Greyhound goal with three minutes left gave the guests the 25-8 victory.

With the loss, NMU falls to 2-12 on the season and 1-10 in the conference while UIndy improved to 13-3 with a 9-2 GLIAC record.  The Wildcats will conclude the 2018 campaign on Sunday for Senior Day in the Superior Dome and will honor Bangle, senior Danielle Grzeskowiak (Brighton, Mich.) and senior Blair Osgood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Andover).
