NMU Falls To 7th Ranked Minnesota-Duluth

HOUGHTON, Mich.  --  Northern Michigan University faced the 7th ranked team in the country in the second match of the Keweenaw Classic, but fell to University of Minnesota-Duluth 3-0.

Despite keeping each set competitive, the Wildcats were unable to pull out the upset.  The Bulldogs captured the victory 25-22, 25-22 and 25-17.

Senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) and freshman Leticia Antunes Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) paced the NMU offense with 10 kills each.  Whitehead added four block assists while Antunes chipped in with seven digs and a solo block.

Senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Wisc.) and Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) aided the effort with six kills each, with Chosa also posting three block assists.

Senior Jamie Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) posted 33 assists and an ace. Junior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley/Cape Fear CC) finished the match with a team-high 15 digs.

The Wildcats fall to 4-2 on the season with Minnesota-Duluth improving to 5-1 on the year.  NMU returns to action on Saturday for day two of the Keweenaw Classic to take on St. Cloud State University at 1 p.m. and Bemidji State University at 5 p.m.
