ALLENDALE, Mich.  --  Northern Michigan University's volleyball team was back for Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference action Saturday but ultimately fell to Grand Valley State University 3-1. 

The Wildcats scored at least 21 points in each set, dropping the first set 25-23.  They answered by taking the second set 25-19 but fell 25-21 in the third set.  In the final set, NMU would keep it close, but were unable to get past the Lakers, falling 25-23 for a second time.  

Redshirt sophomore Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wisc./De Pere) led the Wildcat offense with 12 kills.  Senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) and junior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) chipped in with 11 kills each.  Monsma also added two aces to her GLIAC leading total.  Senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Wisc.) aided the offense with nine kills. 

Senior Jami Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) added 49 assists to the effort. 

Defensively, Chosa finished with a solo block and nine assisted blocks.  Hogeboom finished with six block assists. 

Junior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley/Cape Fear CC) finished the day with a team-high 19 digs.  Hogeboom notched 13 while Monsma added 11 and freshman Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/ Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) posted 10. 

The Wildcats fall to 11-4 and 5-2 in the GLIAC while Grand Valley improved to 8-7, 5-2 in the GLIAC.  After two weeks away, NMU returns to Vandament Arena to take on GLIAC foe Tiffin University Friday.
