Box Score BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- Senior Jami Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) became the fifth player in Northern Michigan University volleyball history to achieve 3,000 career assists in the team's match Saturday.
Hogeboom finished with 31 assists against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference foe, and seventh-ranked nationally, Ferris State University. She now has 3,001 assists in her career and is fifth in school history.
Against the Bulldogs, junior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) and Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wisc./De Pere) tied for the team's lead with eight kills. Freshman Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) and senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) both added six.
In addition to 31 assists, Hogeboom added two aces as well. Defensively, her seven digs trailed only junior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley, Cape Fear CC) who tallied 16.
Kuehn also had a big day protecting the net, finishing with four solo blocks and added three block assists. Senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Mich.) notched three block assists.
The Wildcats took on the 7th ranked Bulldogs but were unable to come away with the upset, falling 25-19, 25-19, 27-25. NMU now falls to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC while FSU improved to 10-2 on the season, 5-0 in GLIAC play. Northern Michigan will now enjoy nearly a week from action as they don't return until Friday as they visit Wayne State University in another GLIAC matchup.
