Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- Northern Michigan University's Volleyball Team defeated Lake Superior State University 3-0 to collect their fifth-straight victory. The win is also their third-straight sweep over a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent, and ninth sweep of the season.
The Wildcats defeated the Lakers 25-13 in the first and second set, then took the third set 25-18.
Senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Wisc.) paced the offense with 14 kills on a .667 hitting percentage. Junior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) finished with nine kills while freshman Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) posted seven.
Senior Jami Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) notched 31 assists to move into fifth all-time in NMU history for career assists. She also tied with junior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley/Cape Fear CC) and sophomore Gabriela Martinez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista/Puerto Rico, Río Piedras) with two aces each.
Braunschweig also led the defense with 12 digs. Antunes chipped in with eight while Monsma added seven.
The Wildcats were fueled to victory once ahead with their dominance at the net. NMU totaled nine blocks, led by redshirt sophomore Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wisc./De Pere), who finished with two solo blocks and four block assists. Senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) aided the effort with four block assists.
NMU also forced LSSU into a hitting percentage of just .020 for the night while the Wildcats hit at .429 percent.
With the win, Northern Michigan improved to 17-6 on the season and 9-3 in the GLIAC. LSSU fell to 3-18, 1-11 in league play. NMU returns to action Saturday as they visit Saginaw Valley State University looking to tie their best winning-streak of the season.
