MARQUETTE, Mich.  --  Northern Michigan University's Volleyball team defeated Davenport University 3-0 for the Wildcats' second sweep of the weekend.

NMU overwhelmed the Panthers early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead on their way to a 25-11 first-set victory.  DU got closer in the second set, but NMU again overpowered the guests, winning the set 25-14.  In the third set, NMU got up 24-15, but the Panthers would rally, pulling within 24-21 before senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) killed the match point, giving NMU a 25-21 third-set and, match, victory.

Whitehead finished the match with a team-high 14 kills.  Freshman Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil) added 10 kills while senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Wisc.) posted seven.

Senior Jami Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) chipped in with 32 assists.  Sophomore Gabriela Martinez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/) led the Wildcats with three aces and junior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) added two. 

Defensively, Monsma led the squad with 13 digs.  Antunes and junior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley/Cape Fear CC) aided the effort with nine digs each.  Martinez also notched eight digs. 

At the net, the Wildcats continued their season-long success as they posted seven blocks, led by Chosa's three assisted blocks and one solo block.  Whitehead contributed two block assists and a solo block.  Hogeboom and redshirt sophomore Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wisc./De Pere) got in on the action, as both posted two block assists.

In addition to the seven blocks, the Wildcats forced the Panthers into just a .030 hitting percentage.  In the first set, DU would hit in the negative, finishing with a -.086 hitting percentage. 

NMU improves to 16-6 overall, 8-3 in the GLIAC while Davenport fell to 9-13, 5-6 in the league.  Northern Michigan will next head to Lake Superior State University Friday looking to repeat a sweep over LSSU from earlier this season.
