MARQUETTE, Mich.  -- Northern Michigan University's Volleyball team claimed their third sweep in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as they defeated Purdue University-Northwest 3-0 Friday night.

The Wildcats came out hot to start the match, winning the first set 25-14. They then powered to back-to-back 25-21 victories in the second and third sets.

Senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Wisc.) paced NMU with nine kills and ended with a .562 hitting percentage.  She also added a solo block and led the defense with four block assists. 

Junior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) and redshirt sophomore Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wisc./De Pere) also added nine kills each.  Senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) chipped in with eight kills while freshman Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) contributed seven. 

Senior Jami Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) finished the night with 38 assists and two block assists.

Sophomore Cheyanna Pyka (Merrill, Wisc.) posted a career-high as she notched five aces against the Pride.  Antunes added two as the Wildcats finished the match with nine aces, tied for their best performance in GLIAC play. 

Junior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley/Cape Fear CC) led the defensive backline with nine digs. 

NMU proved to be too much for Purdue-Northwest at the net.  The Wildcats backed up their first-ranked blocking as they finished with eight team blocks compared to the Pride's two.  Northern Michigan also finished with a hitting percentage of .354 and held the visitors to just .160, including .042 in the first set, and .040 in the third set.

With the win, NMU improves to 15-6 overall and 7-3 in the GLIAC while PNW fell to 6-18, 1-9 in league play.  The Wildcats return to Vandament Arena Saturday to take on Davenport University in another GLIAC matchup.
