Box Score AURORA, Ill. – Northern Michigan University took on Rockhurst University in the first matchup of the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover but fell in five sets.
The Wildcats dropped the first two sets by the identical 25-18 score. They then rebounded and claimed 25-23 and 25-19 victories in the third and fourth sets. However, Rockhurst bounced back to capture the match by winning the fifth set 15-10.
Senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Wisc.) paced the team with 21 kills, five block assists and a solo block. During the match, Chosa also reached several career milestones as she now has totaled 100 career solo blocks, 400 career total blocks and 1,000 kills. She currently ranks third in NMU history in solo blocks and second in career total blocks.
Senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) finished with 16 kills and three block assists. Junior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) and redshirt sophomore Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wisc./De Pere) both added 11 kills. Monsma also chipped in with two aces and 12 digs, while Kuehn notched four block assists and a solo block.
Freshman Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) contributed nine kills and 12 digs to the effort.
Senior Jami Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) recorded 57 assists, 14 digs and five block assists.
Junior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley/Cape Fear CC) posted 24 digs to lead the defense.
NMU falls to 12-6 on the season while Rockhurst improved to 15-5. The Wildcats will look to bounce back tonight as they take on Walsh University.
