Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan women's soccer team fell to St. Cloud State, 2-0, Friday afternoon at the NMU Soccer Field.
The Huskies broke the stalemate after 20 minutes of play in the second half when Brooke Bares beat Caroline Glantz just inside the box.
Paula Hafner had multiple scoring opportunities in the first half. Eleven minutes in, Tabitha Boze's shot was blocked directly to her, but Julia Clifford caught her point-blank shot. Sophia Sachs fed the ball to Hafner for another attempt 20 minutes in.
Glantz denied the Huskies a prime scoring opportunity at around the halfway mark of the first. After Kate Fearing's shot deflected off of the crossbar, Hannah Marion collected the rebound and sent a shot on Glantz, which she turned aside.
Late in the second half, Hafner had yet another scoring opportunity when she fought off a defender, but her shot was smothered by Clifford.
Northern Michigan almost found the back of the net with 12 minutes left in the game when Carmen Villarruel took a cross and was denied by a fingertip save.
The Huskies tacked on a second goal in the last 10 minutes of play. St. Cloud State finished the game with a 17-9 shot advantage.
Glantz made eight saves. Hafner led the Wildcats with four shots, all of which were on goal.
The Wildcats next host Winona State Sunday 1 p.m. at the NMU Soccer Field
