MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan volleyball team overcame a two-set deficit to top Northwood in five Saturday afternoon at Vandament Arena.

After the Timberwolves took the first two sets by 25-20 and 25-21 margins, the Wildcats rallied to win the next three, 25-19, 25-14 and 15-11.

The fourth set proved to be the turning point of the match. Northern Michigan strung together 4-0, 5-0 and 6-0 runs en route to its most commanding victory of the day. The Wildcats carried that momentum into the decisive set, taking seven of the first 11 points.

While Northwood rallied twice to even the score in the final frame, Northern Michigan pulled out the win by scoring the final four points.

In the first set, after falling behind, 15-7, the Wildcats used an 11-8 run to pull within five points. But their rally stalled, and the Timberwolves took a 1-0 lead by winning two of the final four points.

The second set was closer, with the teams trading points throughout. In the third set, after Northern Michigan strung together a 9-4 run, Northwood responded with a 7-2 run to tie the set at 11.

The Wildcats regrouped with a 5-1 run to pull ahead by four. While the Timberwolves cut their deficit to a single point, Northern Michigan used a second 5-1 run to prolong the match.

For the second-straight game, Autumn Monsma reached the double digits in both kills (14) and digs (23). Madison Whitehead again led the Wildcats offensively, totaling 17 kills, while Bridget Bussell contributed 13.

Rachel Braunschweig (17) and Gabriela Martínez (11) reached the double digits in digs. With 52 helpers, Jami Hogeboom reached the 50-assist plateau for the eighth time this season and the 12th time in her collegiate career.

With the win, their second in a row, Northern Michigan moves to 15-14 (6-9 GLIAC). The Wildcats return to Vandament Arena next weekend for the last time in 2016, facing off against Lake Superior State (Nov. 11, 5 p.m.) and Saginaw Valley State (Nov. 12, 4 p.m.).
