Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan volleyball team dispatched Hillsdale in three sets Friday night at Vandament Arena.
The Wildcats downed the Chargers by 25-19, 25-21 and 25-22 margins to snap a five-match losing skid.
In the first set, the teams were tied six times in the early goings. Northern Michigan used a 13-4 run to pull within set point, at 24-15. While Hillsdale fought off set point four times, a kill by Madison Whitehead sealed the Wildcats' first-set victory.
Northern Michigan pulled away later in the second set than in the first. With the teams tied at 13 apiece, the Wildcats used an 8-2 run to pull ahead, 21-15. The Chargers drew within one by winning the next five points, but Northern Michigan closed out the set with a 4-1 run of its own.
The Wildcats sealed their sixth sweep of the season by outlasting Hillsdale in the final set. After Northern Michigan ran out to a 4-1 lead, the Chargers tied the set at seven with a 6-3 run.
The Wildcats then won 16 of the next 26 points to take a 23-17 lead. Hillsdale rallied, winning five of the next six points to pull within two, but Autumn Monsma ended the match with a kill.
Whitehead paced the Wildcat attack with 14 kills. Rachel Braunschweig recorded 17 digs while Jami Hogeboom posted 36 assists.
Monsma was strong on both offense and defense, finishing second on the team in both kills (10) and digs (11).
